Desire to know why, and how -- curiosity, which is a lust of the mind, that a perseverance of delight in the continued and indefatigable generation of knowledge -- exceedeth the short vehemence of any carnal pleasure.

Hobbes knew what he was talking about.

One can say Hobbes knew what he was talking about IF he did try both, the route of carnal pleasure and the route of learning , and then chose the latter. Further, if Hobbes claimed to be a "truth junkie", then he damn well better have been willing to support it with actions... the very painful, long and tedious actions one must perform in order to get an ounce of these days. Of course, Hobbes was a philosopher, who mused and didn't have to worry too much about the validity of his claim... an idealist living in his fantasy world.

I didn't mean to rip Hobbes a new one.
